How to Read This Page
"Our score" is the data-driven number you see on every country page: a composite of conflict, crime, health, governance and environment indicators, recomputed daily. "Community score" is what you get once we fold in what travelers tell us: each vote is a slider between "much less safe" and "much safer" than our score, saved as a signed adjustment.
We don't just average every vote equally. Newer votes count a little more than older ones — their weight fades on roughly a one-month half-life — and however strong the collective opinion, it can only move the score by at most 1 point in either direction. That cap keeps a handful of very vocal votes from swamping a number meant to reflect broad, verified data.
A gap between the two is genuinely useful information: our score weighs structural risk indicators a short trip may never touch, while travelers report what daily life actually felt like — including things no dataset fully captures, and occasionally one loud trip report more than a broad pattern. Neither number is "the truth" by itself; read together, they tell you more than either one alone.
